'The Vampire Diaries' 412 "A View to a Kill" Review

CW

This week we said goodbye to another member of the Original family, of course he also happened to be one that was barely on the series anyway so his death isn’t really a shocking one.  Kol has filled the role of dead man walking since last week when he was against everyone else’s plan to go dig up Silas and find the cure.  I’m starting to think they’re all going to regret their choices by not listening to a vampire that admitted he rolled in the same circles with witches who spoke of Silas.  Instead they’re listening to a professor who has caused the deaths of over twenty four people and who they also barely know.  I’m sure we’ll be seeing Kol again in flashbacks over at the  potential spin-off however as he very specifically mentioned being in New Orleans in the 1900s.

CW
Of course after Kol is killed and Klaus is helplessly forced to watch him burn he goes a bit insane and says he’s going to burn the house down and slaughter everyone inside of it.  When lamepire Elena asks him about his hybrids he claims he never cared about them and was going to destroy the cure when he found it.  Really Klaus you are the captain of bad choices, you could have simply sided with Kol and had Jeremy killed then the others would be forced to sit and spin regarding finding that cure for a long long time.  At this point I really don’t know what the writers are trying to do with Klaus as his motivations outside of family are fuzzy at best.  He had a moment with Damon earlier in the episode asking him about how Elena could forgive him anything which was clearly a nod to the conflict involved with Klaroline.  Damon claims that when you’re bad you need to be bad with purpose.  Right Damon, because snapping Jeremy’s neck and all the other random bullshit you’ve pulled over the last few seasons was done with purpose.  I guess whatever we’re seeing now is going to lead up to his decision to leave Mystic Falls for New Orleans, but suddenly dropping the hybrid thing in one episode is a bit much especially considering he wouldn’t shut up about it for the past season and a half.

Continuing on our journey through the Originals Rebekah was excellent again this week.  She also finally got to go to a dance thanks to Stefan and his impure intentions.  I’m glad that Stefan has actually turned around on what he thinks about Rebekah and I hope it’s not just because he’s trying to spite Elena. They have a real chemistry together which probably puts her in more danger than ever because any woman who isn’t the dopplesnatch that so much as stands too close to any part of the ‘epic’ love triangle is killed off.  So good luck Beks, I hope you do better than Kol and make it to the spin-off--not just in the flashbacks.

CW
Elena this week was just as insufferable as ever, and she doesn’t even fully want the cure.  She’s constantly bunny hopping back and forth about it but because Damon and Stefan both want it for her of course she just has to have it.  What made her so insufferable? Well part of it was her continued commitment to not caring about consequences for others (outside of a limited few) so long as it serves her purpose. An example of this is how by killing Kol they just slayed an entire line of vampires in one fell swoop.  Not to mention how uppity she got when she found out Stefan didn’t dagger Rebekah when told to.  How dare he do anything to anger the dopplesnatch...let alone try to get over her.

CW
I wanted to give Bonnie’s mom a kiss when she firmly told her daughter:no more helping Elena Gilbert.  It’s like finally some character understood how Elena and company use Bonnie for their own good.  She’s the fucking key to getting the cure and she claims it’s for her mother, but her mother doesn’t want it and that the quest for the cure isn’t worth it because now Bonnie’s dabbling in dark magic.  She claims it’s not dark magic, but lets be fucking real here it completely is--don’t trust Shane for a second if he says otherwise.  Bonnie has no real motivation or need to find the cure other than other characters saying they need her help to find it.  Bonnie don’t be a bleeding heart for these people or you’re going to end up with yours outside of your chest someday.
