'The Vampire Diaries' 413 Review: "Into the Wild"

CW
This week on The Vampire Diaries... well let’s face it guys, this entire episode was a filler episode.  Instead of ripping the lid off whatever was holding Silas by the end of the episode, we really ended not too far from where it began.  I can’t help but think in an earlier season we’d be moving along far faster, but instead we need another entire episode devoted to love triangles and seeing where everyone stands in terms of the cure.  Oh, and totally cementing that Shane is insane and evil--not that we hadn’t figured that out already.

CW
It’s certainly amusing to have Shane’s dead wife tell him that if you ‘promise someone that they can see their dead loved ones again and they’ll do anything’, considering that’s exactly what happened.  Silas can’t raise the dead, but clearly his powers are very much working in that he can manipulate people into seeing their loved ones so that he can have some help getting free.  I’m pretty sure Shane is going to die for his troubles by the end of next week’s episode unless they decide to stall again.

CW
The dopplesnatch was in her full judgement mode this episode, trying to kill Rebekah within the first five minutes because she just didn’t like her coming along.  We did however see small glimmers of a non-judgemental Elena, but that was only after Rebekah totally saved her ass from a trap she just wandered over.  However she was definitely in full-blown judgement mode when Damon revealed that he in no way shape or form wanted to take the cure.  He enjoys being a vampire, which throughout the seasons it’s been clear that being a vampire really was the best thing ever for him.  This naturally makes him try to drive a wedge between Elena and himself, again showing just how selfish both the brothers are.  They want her, but they only want her a specific way, and Damon wants her a vampire while Stefan wants her human.  To her credit, she seems to be standing her ground about wanting to be human. Elena’s reasons for wanting the cure outweigh any so-called “epic” love she and Damon have, but we’ll see if that changes by next week.

CW
When we weren’t brooding in the woods, we were instead brooding in Elena’s living room thanks to the spell that Bonnie put down that’s kept Klaus trapped there.  It really boiled down to a lot of male posturing between Tyler and Klaus.  Tyler prematurely celebrating the cure and talking about how he’s going to kill Klaus, but then they make the fatal mistake of thinking that Klaus is just going to sit there and take it.  I whooped when he stabbed Caroline with a lamp and yanked her in the room to give her the bite that would pretty much put her life in his hands.  Of course I knew that Klaus wasn’t going to let Caroline die, but that would have been an amazing shocker if he did.  I’m not entirely convinced Caroline was being genuine in what she told him, and who could blame her because she’s dying, but it again brought up the argument of who is in charge of who is able to be saved and forgiven and who isn’t when she went on about the horrible things Klaus has been responsible for.

CW
They’ve all done some very terrible things, including Elena but she honestly doesn’t believe she has.  Rebekah even speaks to this when she talks to Stefan, sure she made Elena go off the bridge but at the time it was the only way to save her other brothers.  An act that the trio and company have committed several times over, and something that were they in her shoes they’d have done the same.  So when they keep emphasizing that hey maybe these guys aren’t as evil as you all were convinced does that mean we’re going to be dealing with a real evil down the road? You know, like the one they’re about to dig up.
