'Revenge' Season Finale Review - "Truth"

ABC
It’s been a hell of a rocky season for Revenge, but at least it’s gone out with a bang, and a ton of cliffhangers!
So let’s start with the rockiest part of the road and how they wrapped up the Initiative's storyline.  It turns out that the Initiative is run by businessmen trying to play God so they can make money.  That means that way earlier in the season when Helen Crowley spoke to Conrad in jail, he managed to get into the inner circle of things. Conrad then knew everything that was about to go down as part of their plan.  Including Grayson Global being blown sky high so he was able to position his campaign headquarters close enough for some great press opportunities and ensure his children wouldn’t be there at the time.  Conrad is really sinking his claws into being a villain this season, it’s great to see someone surprise Victoria and if anyone was going to do it it would be Conrad.  That or the long-lost son showing up at her doorstep in the final moments.  We didn’t get to see him of course, but I’m sure we’ll all know who he is in a few months when he’s cast for season three.

ABC
One person who won’t be making it to season three is Declan, who was the promised “been there since the beginning” casualty in the finale.  His death seemed all too convenient really, as who knows why he was up on the 27th floor when the bomb blew?  I’d have been more convinced if he was hit by some debris that fell from the explosion because otherwise we’re seemingly meant to believe that Conrad possibly tricked BOTH Porter brothers up onto that floor.  Regardless, Declan was falling into disuse over this season anyway so it’s not terribly shocking he got the axe, plus there’s the added bonus that his death will push other people’s storylines forward--none more so than his brother Jack.  Jack is full of rage the entire finale and Declan’s death  sends him so far over that he wants to murder Conrad.  Luckily, Emily stops him and in that moment reveals herself to him as the real Amanda Clarke. I don’t think Jack’s going to take it all that well, but I feel like next season could very well include him being brought in with Emily and show her taking on a mentor role with him as Takeda once did with her.

ABC
Besides team Emily could really use another person as it has taken a severe hit this episode.  First, the FBI has arrested Nolan for the Carrion program.  Things are looking very down for him as Padma’s taped message shows up wherein she implicates him as being the Initiative.  It seems pretty certain that they weren’t looking to take down Aidan as the fall guy here.  I’m very worried for Nolan as season three moves forward, will we only be visiting him from a jail cell?  I’m even more worried for Aidan however, who is quite possibly very dead right now.  Aidan was released from custody so he marches back to speak with Emily only to find Daniel instead.  After a smackdown, he tells Daniel that he’s going to let Emily go or else, and then we see Daniel glimpse Emily’s gun laying on the floor.  This won’t be the first time Daniel has shot someone, but it looks like he may have murdered Aidan when he shows up at the campaign headquarters looking for a new shirt since his is all bloodied.  I doubt he left Aidan’s body around if he did kill him so it’ll probably seem like Aidan has disappeared.  I really am quite devastated if Aidan is dead, he and Emily had such good chemistry and she truly did care for him.  If Daniel did murder Aidan in cold blood, when Emily finds out there will be hell to pay.

ABC
As far as season finales go, I think this season was far superior to season one. The stakes just felt much higher even if the confirmed actual death wasn’t a tragedy itself but more of a plot device, but I mean hey we all knew Victoria wasn’t going to end up dead last year so it’s something to have one stick.  I’m actually looking forward to seeing where all these threads lead into season three, which is saying something when several of the shows I’ve been tuning in for lately have me contemplating tuning out for good.  On a final note, I’d like to thank anyone who’s read any of my reviews for Revenge this season.  If I could send you all a red sharpie in the mail I would, so instead I bid you adieu until we re-join our heroine next fall as her very complicated journey for revenge continues.

  1. The reason why Declan was in the Grayson Global building was because Charlotte told him he was with Daniel. So he went to his office expecting to find them there. If only Charlotte didnt lie and instead said she was with Regina he would still be alive
