'Revenge' Review 2.04 - "Intuition"

ABC
This week on Revenge, someone takes a nearly deadly tumble, the band-aid gets ripped off past traumatic memories, and we force a little chemistry with a bit of grief bonding in a number of storylines.  Oh, and let’s not forget the long con that’s been quietly playing out in the past few episodes.

ABC
We opened the episode with a pool of blood, so we all knew something bad was about to go down at the Grayson manor.  My personal reaction was the same as Conrad’s when he returned later in the episode and saw the maid cleaning it up.  A look of “what did you do this time, Victoria?”  At first I assumed Amanda went into a very bloody labor, but boy was I wrong.  Seeing the shot of the balcony you just knew what was about to happen, well almost.  I thought Victoria would have straight up shoved her right off it, instead it turned out to be a tragic accident, here’s a lesson: Ladies don’t wear high heels while pregnant.  I guess they didn’t want to add murderess to Victoria’s many titles, at least not yet.

ABC
A bizarre string of events, that I don’t think even Emily could plan out, led her long lost mother to make her way to the woman she thinks is her daughter’s bedside.  I think a lot of people weren’t counting on the whole everyone thinks Amanda is the real Amanda Clarke thing to come into play where mommy was involved.  So we’re going to be treated to Emily being forced to watch her mother and fake self bond.  If she’s even going to be bothered by it, because seeing her mother again tipped off quite the nasty memory about her, mainly that she’d attempted to kill her.  Which is what Victoria told Amanda before she took a spill over the balcony so if she survives she’ll likely have amnesia about the event. The third possibility is Mommy tries to finish the job by smothering her dear comatose daughter with a pillow.

ABC
It’s also important to note that the Graysons have had a lot of security systems installed. On one hand, that makes it far easier for Emily to keep tabs,(RIP Whale and Clam Cams), but  it’s also gotten in her way already this episode.  She can’t just freely sneak and lurk without the cameras picking up on it, and it interfered with the earwig right before Victoria let Amanda know all about what her mother was capable of.  If Emily’s going to keep showing up on the property she’s going to have to be very cautious about who she talks to and for how long, or someone’s finally going to catch on to the fact she’s not all that she seems.

ABC
So let’s take a smash cut over to my not so favorite couple, Nolan and Padma.  This week in order to force some chemistry between the pair they decide to let them bond over some shared experiences with grief.  We of course discover that Nolan’s father has passed away without his knowledge quite recently, and Padma has a similar story of regret over a family member.  They should have taken the first botched attempt at a kiss as a sign that this isn’t supposed to be happening.  Aside from all that, the fact that Padma has discovered the framed check from David Clarke to Nolan, she’s in line to use him much like his short-term flame last season, Tyler, did.  I want to believe that Padma isn’t embroiled in some larger scheme to bring down Nolcorp, but time will tell there.

ABC
I think this week’s episode could have had a far better title than ‘Intuition’ to something more along the lines of grief bonding as there was quite a bit of that this episode.  Aside from Nolan and Padma, the accident with Amanda seems to be bringing back Declan (more on him in a minute) and Charlotte.  We also have Emily’s newly regained memories of her mother bringing her to fall back into Aidan’s arms.  There is one other hook-up going on that falls outside the grief spectrum, Ashley and Daniel.  I’m not entirely convinced her telling off Conrad wasn’t just a ruse to get him off their backs, and I’m also not entirely convinced she and Conrad weren’t sleeping together.  Why marry the Prince, when you could marry the King?

ABC
So it appears I was a bit right in calling it about JR Bourne’s character being in cahoots with Trey, it’s just not something they want to bring Declan in on.  Instead it’s an extortion plot because they want to get their hands on the Stowaway. It remains to be seen if they want the bar itself, or the property it’s on.  But I’m glad there was something else here at play that will have a larger effect on more than just Declan as this is going to greatly affect Jack as well.

ABC
Now that Emily has actually found her mother, is this the end for her saga of revenge?  She’s claimed it’s all she wants now, but I believe what Amanda told her before she had her accident, “you will never be done.”  I also can’t help but rooting for the saga to continue because I don’t want my sudsy Sunday drama going anywhere soon.
