'Revenge' 3.04 "Mercy" Review

ABC
So it turns out I was a little premature last week when I announced that Father Paul was dead.
I wasn’t far off however, as he dies in the opening scene of the episode which sets off a chain of events in which Emily desperately attempts to continue her takedown of Conrad.  But not so fast, even though Conrad was driving the car it turns out that he didn’t crash it on purpose nor were Emily’s medications to blame.  No, it seems that someone was out to kill Conrad by tampering with his brake lines, and killed the good father in the process.

ABC
Conrad doesn’t find this out until the end of the episode however, so before that he assumes he’s to blame and immediately claims he was the passenger.  Cue a mass cover-up by himself and Daniel which includes blocking Emily from giving her statement to police. As you can imagine, Emily once again seeing how much Daniel is like his father didn’t do much for their relationship.  Let’s be real, her statement about his DUI was totally her lashing out; it was not very calm and collected, so keep it together Ems.  I’m curious to see how Emily is going to even make it to the wedding with her relationship in splinters at the moment. Addtionally, Conrad and Daniel remain my top suspects as to who shoots Emily, especially after Conrad’s accident triggers the revelation that he doesn’t have Huntingtons. (See Crackpot Corner at the end for another theory)

ABC
Of course Conrad shouldn’t be resting easy back on top of his perch at Grayson manor considering someone’s trying to kill him.  Emily at first thinks it’s Aiden, and yes, he’s gone rogue before so it wouldn’t have been shocking but he claims it wasn’t him.  But after he discovers that Jack knows about who Emily really is, he goes on to throw Jack under the bus when he scapegoats Jack to Conrad as the person that is coming for him.  Emily isn’t going to be very happy you’re going off script again, Aiden.  That was a real dick move, buddy.

ABC
This leaves the question open of who is trying to kill Conrad and honestly the answer is as obvious as the telephone pole Conrad crashed into.  Clearly our #HamptonsKiller is… Patrick!  All the boy wants is his mother to be free from the Graysons so he decided to have Conrad check out a bit sooner than the Huntingtons would have taken him.  Or perhaps we’ll find out he heard about Conrad’s plan to confess and sprung into action just before they pulled away.  Either way if we find out it’s someone other than Patrick I’ll be entirely shocked.

I’ll be shocked as this episode really tried to get us to believe Patrick wasn’t the best guy ever when he seemed to be trying to pawn off some of Victoria’s art to her new employer at the gallery. We find out later on though that he did it for Victoria so she could get the gallery all for herself. It’s been a long time since we’ve seen Victoria resort to these gloriously dirty tactics, and I hope this is only the first of many to come this season as she attempts to claw her way back up the social ladder in the Hamptons.

ABC
Leaving the best for last, let’s go back to Patrick.  I was thrilled as ever last week when the surprising pairing of Nolan and Patrick was tossed into the air and it continues in this week’s episode.  We get to see Nolan breaking his vow to leave techie!Nolan behind, at least temporarily, as he hunts down Patrick’s ex-wife in Florida.  While we didn’t get the reveal in the episode what information he gathered from her for twenty thousand dollars, it’s pretty clear it wasn’t a deal-breaker when he meets up with Patrick to return his wallet. A wallet which he stole at the beginning of the episode.  Turns out inspite of being a tease when Nolan went in for a kiss Patrick is totally interested and makes the move himself. Now hopefully we’ll get more Margaux and Jack next week so I can bask in two pairings this season that I approve of.

ABC
REVENGE CRACKPOT CORNER
I feel like we’re getting quite a few things that are making me think twice about the opening scene this season.  If you don’t remember what that was, blushing bride Emily takes two shots to the stomach from an unknown assailant and goes overboard.  So last week my suspicions arose when we saw that Emily is studying a map on the beach before the final scene with Aiden, one that has marks in the water.  Couple this with the reveal that this week she’s planning on taking down the Graysons at her wedding, it makes me believe that she’s going to frame them for either her “murder” or her attempted murder.
